Mexico

This amazing country to our south has so much to offer. Geographically, Mexico is the world’s 14th largest country by total area. Just south of the border you’ll find the amazing limestone cliffs of El Potrero Chico. These cliffs can reach as high as 2000 feet. South of that and running from east to west, the country is crossed by the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt. Because of this, a large portion of central Mexico is located at higher than average altitudes. This is where you’ll find the beautiful peaks of Pico de Orizaba (5,700m) and Iztaccihuatl (5,286m). Check out our incredible Mexico expeditions that we offer below.

Mexico Volcanoes

Not surprisingly, many climbers who begin their international climbing careers with a trip to Mexico enjoy great success as they progress to their next objectives. The Mexican volcanoes provide the perfect training ground for high-altitude climbing. We’ve been running trips to Mexico for over twenty years, and each year we continue to refine our trips. Our long-standing relationship with our support team in Mexico, combined with the mix of high-altitude climbing and cultural exploration, create a terrific adventure.

Orizaba Express

Standing at almost 19,000’, Orizaba is third highest mountain in North America and is one of the worlds Volcanic Seven Summits. This beautiful peak will require hiking and climbing on fairly steep terrain, while using crampons, a mountaineering axe, and traveling as a roped team. This amazing trip is just 8 days long. We’ll start off with an acclimitization hike of La Malinche (14,640’) before we head over to climb Orizaba. Come conquer North America’s highest volcanic summit with us.

Potrero Chico Rock Camp

Today’s expeditions aren’t necessarily like those of old, with extended travel to cold places. Our Potrero Chico experience epitomizes a climbing trip of a different breed, one for climbers who would rather pull on limestone edges than crampon up steep slopes. This seven-day climbing trip combines superb climbing with ease of access. If you have a week off and want to take advantage of Mexico’s rock climbing, then Potrero Chico can’t be beat. Guided at low ratios (2:1), this trip focuses on multi-pitch climbing, though many single-pitch options exist.
