Roy Leggett

Roy understands the nuts and bolts of high-end guiding from a first-hand perspective. He channels his thoughtful, sincere approach and energetic yet easy-going demeanor into both his program manager duties and his guiding, with each complimenting the other. Roy first worked in our Estes Park office, trying to get a foot in the door, but full-time office work just didn’t fit a guy who, when he began climbing at age 12, would regularly pedal his bike to the crags after school. He soon took his technical abilities and people skills, combined them with his drive, and became one of our guides.

When he was 17, Roy’s enthusiasm, dedication and fast learning landed him his first guiding job, for Outpost Wilderness Adventures in central Colorado. His personal climbing experience includes rock, ice and alpine routes in the lower 48, Canada, Switzerland and Alaska. He speaks some German, is a superb photographer and, in addition to guiding locally, he’s guided ascents in Alaska (including the challenging Ham and Eggs route and Peak 11,300’), Ecuador, Bolivia, and Mexico. His dependability and talent earned him valuable training as an assistant under an IFMGA guide in the Swiss Alps. Roy has also received Wilderness EMT certification and completed AMGA Advanced Rock Guide and Alpine Guide courses. The quintessential young, ambitious and well-rounded climber, he’s explored untapped bouldering areas in the Virgin Islands, established first ascents in RMNP, and climbed difficult alpine routes in Alaska, but his heart lies in the Carribean.
