Eric Whewell

Certified Rock Guide

AMGA

Originally from the Northeast, Eric grew up boating and fishing in the Atlantic waters of Rhode Island. He played volleyball and basketball in high school before his interests transitioned to non-traditional pursuits. After learning to ski at the age of 7 and sailing from a young age, Eric’s love for the outdoors flourished. From day hikes to backpacking, fourth class scrambles, and technical rock climbs, Eric followed the path of natural progression to his passion: climbing. Erics first climbing experiences were in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. He then ventured to the bigger walls in the lower 48, including grade V free climbs in Yosemite, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, and Zion National Park. Eric has pursued climbing as a lifestyle and profession.
He graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Outdoor Leadership from Western State College of Colorado in Gunnison, Colorado. Eric is a certified AMGA Rock Guide, has completed the AMGA Alpine Guides Course, AIARE Avalanche Level 1 and 2 courses all while pursuing IFMGA/UIAGM certification. Eric is also an instructor for the AMGA Single Pitch Program. He has previous guiding experiences in Colorado with Crested Butte Mountain Guides and Gunnison Valley Adventure Guides.
Eric now splits his time between Boulder and Estes Park, CO. When not guiding he can be found searching for the next splitter crack or powder turn.
